Prof. Leocadio Rodríguez Mañas

Head of the Geriatric Department, Hospital Universitario de Getafe, he is Director of the Spanish Network on Aging and Frailty (RETICEF) of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, Co-Director of the Toledo Study on Healthy Aging-TSHA, where the Frailty Score Index has been developed to assess frailty in community-dwelling older adults, Principal Investigator in 36 research projects, 4 of them funded by the European Commission(3 under the FP7 focused on the field of frailty in elderly people and 1 under the Second program of community action in the field of Health 2008-2013 of the DG SANCO), as previously stated. He is also participating, playing a key role, in other EU-funded projects related to frailty or ageing, like SPRINTT (funded by IMI), ACANTO and DECI (under Horizon 2020).

Prof. Rodríguez Mañas is the coordinator of the group “Frailty” of the A3 Action Group (“Prevention and early diagnosis of frailty and functional decline”) of the European Innovation Partnership on Active Healthy Aging (EIP-AHA), contact person of the Reference Site “Region of Madrid” and responsible for the two “Best Practices” supporting the designation of this Region as Reference Site, member of other Action Groups (Prescription and adherence to medical plans-A1; Falls-A2; and Integrated Care for chronic conditions-B3) of the EIP-AHA), and member of the Working Group on Health & Performance (Joint Program Innovation “More Years, Better Lives” of the European Union)..Thus, Prof. Rodriguez Mañas is fully committed in several European initiatives related to frailty and other main aims of the EIP-AHA initiative. Furthermore he has significant experience and leadership in working jointly with other consortium members as well as in the coordination and management of large joint transnational projects and initiatives, including those promoted by WHO (he is a member of the group involved in developing and running a tool for diagnosis of frailty) and the Pan-American Health Organization (as advisor for health problems in older adults). Finally he has participated as a member of the working group that released the “Consensus Document for the Detection and Management of Frailty and Falls”, launched by the Spanish Ministry of Health last June and also in making several national and international Guidelines and documents for clinical uses in older people.
